Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect at Renewed Hope Family Camp?

At Renewed Hope Family Camp our goal is to blend teaching and growth with a fun family vacation and fellowship with like-minded believers.  Each day will have teaching and group discussion time for all ages in the morning, and optional fun activities led by staff members throughout the afternoon and evening.  There will be plenty of time to grow in your relationships as a family, as well as to build and deepen relationships with fellow campers.

Here is an example of what a day at camp may include:

After breakfast we would have our morning study time.  This will last about 1-1 1/2 hours, and is when we will dive deeply into the topic of the day.  During this time couples will meet to discuss the application of that topic to marriage specifically, while children are led by staff members through discussions on the same or a parallel topic in ways that apply to their relationships.  For example, if the topic is conflict resolution, parents will discuss this within the context of marriage, while kids have the opportunity to learn about resolving conflict with their siblings or other peers.

Following morning study time, families will be encouraged to reconvene for a family devotional time, to discuss the things they learned that morning, have family prayer, and hold each other accountable for practical ways to live those lessons out.

This will be followed by lunch, and in the afternoon there will be a variety of fun optional activities led by staff members. This could include things such as (but not limited to) organized sports and games, tournaments, crafts, jam sessions for the musically inclined, etc.  These are activities that families will be able to do together, separately, or not at all, as they see fit.

Following dinner there will be a short chapel session, including worship time and a speaker who will give a message to kind of wrap up the discussion topic for that day in a way that is relatable for all age groups.

Each evening will end with a fun family activity led by staff and designed to help families get to know other families better.

Why are you choosing to separate parents and children for part of the morning?

We understand that many families value family integration, and learning all together, and that is something we value as well!

One of our great burdens for this event is for husbands and wives to have the opportunity to have the kinds of deep, honest, connecting conversations with each other that they cannot have with their children around.  We realize it may be difficult to balance both priorities, but here are a few of the ways we plan to address it:

  • By limiting the segregated time to just the 1-1 1/2 hour morning study time
  • By thoroughly vetting all staff personnel who will interact with and be responsible for children
  • By keeping siblings together in the children's study groups
  • And by making the complete curriculum/discussion guide used for the children's groups available to any parents who wish to see them.

If you have other specific questions or concerns about this aspect of the camp, please feel free to reach out directly!

Where will this camp be held?

We will be using the facilities at HopeWood Shores in northeast Ohio, located at 3901 Lake Road, Conneaut, OH 44030. Right on the shores of Lake Erie, this campground is very family-friendly and boasts some of the most beautiful sunsets you'll ever see!

What is included with the cost of camp?

We have done everything possible to keep this event affordable for all sizes of families!  We are excited to say that the registration cost covers all meals, lodging, sessions, and other organized activities!  Lodging consists of private cabins for each family, with a half-bath included, and centrally located shower facilities.
